The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has set out plans for getting industry information as the first step in exploring how concentrated sunlight could generate reliable, affordable renewable energy having built-in storage for the national grids.
The new plan is aligned with the Federal Government’s offer to make up to $110 million available for an equity investment in accelerating and securing delivery of CST or concentrated solar thermal project in Port Augusta.
ARENA chief executive officer Ivor Frischknect said that while CST can provide reliable renewable energy on demand, further research, investigation and funding was needed for the technology to achieve commercialization in Australia.
