The changes will make it easier and more affordable for customers to be more energy-efficient, according to the state-owned grid operator according to PV Magazine. Ausgrid supplies electricity to nearly 1.7 million customers across New South Wales.
Ausgrid stated last week that it was streamlining applications and decreasing installation fees for customers with solar panels and battery storage in NSW. The company said it would fast-track all battery and solar systems up to 30 kilowatts in size over the coming months in a move that is expected to save customers more than $200 on their applications.
Trevor Armstrong, acting CEO of Ausgrid, stated that people needing new upgraded connections will be able to apply using an online form. He also added that the move is expected to make the grid more efficient and help customers save over the long-term by decreasing the need to build more capacity into the network. Ausgrid supplies electrical power to nearly 1.7 million households in Sydney, the Hunter Valley region and the Central Coast.
About 100,000 customers have already installed embedded generation, usually in the form of residential rooftop PV systems. The new application process cuts out the requirement for a more thorough assessment of systems ranging between 5-10 kilowatt for single-phase connections and 15-30 kilowatts for 3-phase connections.
Changes are due to start later this year.
