Australian Energy Market Commission Keeping Eye on Renewables Stability Effect

Renewable energy generators like wind and solar farms will face tougher checks to make sure that they are not disrupting the ability of the electricity network as part of a new regulatory framework in preventing increased power outages.

The rules were released by the Australian Energy Market Commission and will obligate all electricity distribution networks in the national market in assessing areas of weakness and where they are found, also the said generators will be required to pay for equipment to resolve any issues.

The new rules by the energy market regulators could also hasten the introduction of batteries into the system to enhance the stability where there is a high penetration of renewables. The new rules were ordered as authorities are revamping the regulatory regime to cope with the increasing penetration of renewables into the national electricity market.
