The Australian Wind Alliance has stated that renewable energy projects that were approved or still are under construction can replace the Liddell power station that is set to retire in 2022. According to the alliance, the 3,600 megawatts of new wind and solar farms can replace the capacity of Liddell as reported by Ecogeneration.

According to Andrew Bray, Australian Wind Alliance national coordinator, affordable renewable mixed with rechargeable batteries and demand management will be able to keep the system reliable and reduce electricity bills.

The Australian Wind Alliance also said that:

  • New solar and wind farms will produce power at different intervals to be predictable and reliable across states.
  • Politics is one of the main reasons why blackout risks will be high this summer.
  • The politicians and politics are making energy bills high, going for fragile systems and old power plants.
