1,200 adults were polled last March, 81% of them agreeing with the poll statement – the government should focus on renewables, even if this means we may need to invest more in infrastructure to make the system more reliable.
Only 17% agreed that the government need to focus on coal and gas. The poll also showed climate change was considered a critical threat by the majority of Australians with 57%. Also, in the midst of heated debate and the government’s rhetoric about the need for energy security, Australians still choose renewables over coal and gas as stated by Alex Oliver, director of the Lowy Institute polling program.
