ARENA communicated to 96 of Australia’s largest public and private companies and found just 46 of them were actively using renewable energy. 9 companies said they had an interest in looking into renewable energy and named cost as the primary reason they hadn’t already purchased.
The report said that companies planning to use more renewable energy are doing it for financial benefits, while businesses with no intention of using renewables said it’s too expensive.
Another reason for the different business positions stems from specific industry pressures. For example, companies that use lots of energy like manufacturing, agriculture and mining are more likely to be aware and monitor the prices of the different types of energy. Also, these industries are also the most likely to get the benefits in using renewables to ease the risks of energy supply risks.
66% of these companies get just 10% of their power from renewable sources.
