Canadian Solar announced that it has received $4.6 million grant from the Australian renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) for two of its solar power projects. The two projects will provide a total of 47 MWp in Australia as stated by Streetinsider.
The two solar projects, located in Oakey and Longreach, Queensland are 17MWp and 30MWp each in size. With the 20-year Contract for Difference backed by the government in place, they plan to start the construction of both projects in the first quarter of 2017 and achieve commercial operations date in January 2018.
Dr. Shawn Qu, chairman and chief executive officer of Canadian Solar, they are pleased and proud to secure the funding from ARENA to support their solar project business in Australia. By leveraging their strong project development and execution capabilities and with local government support, the company will continue to expand and execute their quality solar project pipeline in Australia.
The 17MWp project in Longreach will be made of 54,600 Canadian Solar’s new MaxPower2 CS6U-320 (1500) polycrystalline modules. The expected output for the first year of operations. The expected output for the first year of operations is around 39.0GWh, which can power 8,500 Queensland homes. The 30 MWp project at Oakey will use 93,600 Canadian Solar new MaxPower2 CS6U-320 (1500V) polycrystalline modules and with the expected output for the first year of operation of around 59.9GWh, which can power approximately 14,100 homes in Queensland.
