Climate Council States Solar Power is Cheaper Than Fossil Fuels

According to the Climate Council, solar energy is more affordable in Australia than retail power prices in most capital cities after going down 58% in the last five years.

The cost is predicted to go down further 40% to 70% by the year 2040 with the lowest price expected to drive an uptake in usage. It was also noted that industrial-scale solar plants are giving cheap power as compared to new coal plants.

Climate Council CEO Amanda Mckenzie said 20 solar plants were slated to be built all across Australia.

Another 3,700 megawatts of solar energy is coming online in the next few years, so that’s roughly equivalent to powering 600,000 households
