A new guideline for Australia’s electricity networks outlines a national plan to keep the light on, to make sure bills are affordable and decarbonise the electricity industry by the middle of the century.
The plan is formulated by CSIRO and the Energy Networks Australia, which sets out measures that could save consumers an average $414/year, by generating their own electricity through distributed technologies like solar panels and solar batteries. It’s anticipated that Australia could save a total of $101B by the year 2050 while bringing greenhouse emissions to zero.
Each state and territory will play its own distinct role, as each state faces different situations in terms of electricity demand growth, renewable resources, the age and fuel mix of each state’s existing electricity infrastructure and the state renewable energy policies.
