Huge Uptake in Solar Energy Lowers Risk of Electricity Shortfall

Experts and officials of the Australian Solar Council are saying the risk of a power shortage this summer are exaggerated as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald. More solar energy which is 6 times the present large-scale capacity is in the pipeline. Some are underway and some are still in planning stages.

The fast construction times of solar PV plants make the supply shortfall null.

Key takeaways for the huge solar uptake include:

  • Solar use has reached about 6,000 megawatts compared to the prediction made by the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics to just 231 megawatts by 2017.
  • Prices for solar are becoming more affordable.
  • The AEMO report failed to include clean energy projects still under construction that will be added to the mix.
