The Turnbull government’s proposed national energy guarantee will protect the coal generators from stiff competition from renewable energy and battery providers as reported by The Guardian.
Analysis of the National Energy Guarantee (NEG) from the Carbon and Energy Markets for the Australian Conservation Foundation argue that:
- The policy will not establish an effective market in reducing emissions because it won’t put a price on emissions.
- The complex new system that is proposed by the government will prompt the creation a large bureaucracy to account for all electricity produced by generators and sold by retailers.
- The NED is favoring the incumbent generators and is unfair to renewables.
