Parkes Solar Farm Gets Thumbs Up From State Government

A proposed solar farm near Parkes has been approved to be built by the state government. The Parkes solar farm is one of the four to get the green light and will cost about $300 million to construct and provide 330 construction jobs as stated by Daily Liberal

Rob Stokes, Planning Minister and Anthony Roberts, Resource and Energy Minister said the projects showed New South Wales was a national leader in large-scale solar. The four new solar farms will be able to power more than 56,000 households in New South Wales.

The state will save about 342,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas produced yearly and gives more than 357,000 megawatt hours of electricity and using about 500,000 solar panels. According to Mr Stokes, New South Wales is Australia’s large-scale solar leader, with the country’s three largest solar farms and large amounts of solar electricity capacity online and in the pipeline.

He also added that the project’s goal is to make people’s lives better through good planning and the project will increase electricity capacity, create jobs for the local communities and cut greenhouse emissions. Mr Roberts also said that solar power was a key part of the state’s energy mix and would become even more essential in the future.

The 3 approved projects are the White Rock Solar Farm at Glen Innes, Riverina Solar farm located at the southeast of Griffith and Griffith Solar Farm south east of Griffith.
