Solar Energy In Hawaii to Reach 100% Renewable Status

The state and island of Hawaii have been the US leader in solar development. Specifically, solar energy makes sense in the state because of the state’s abundant sunshine and high electricity prices. Energy storage is also an area where Hawaii is ahead of most other US states.

Hawaii will be the first state to take a real focus of being powered by 100% renewable energy, which is something regulators have been pushing for some time, plus, Hawaiian Electric Industries is finally on board with the plan which is to reach 100% renewables by the year 2040.

The next 5 years will be an essential transition from the state with Hawaiian Electric planning to double renewable energy from 25% to 52% of the grid’s supply. Solar power will go up from 717 megawatts to 1,465 megawatts in a combination of utility-scale projects and rooftop installations.
