Solar Power Surpasses With 2/3 of New Generating Capacity Over New Coal Investments

The Australian reported that renewable energy sources, specifically solar power, have exceeded coal generation and now provide 2/3 of the new electricity generating capacity worldwide. Solar power has surpassed investments in coal.

The annual review from the International Energy Agency showed that:

  • renewable energy will continue to have a fast uptake and will raise the worldwide electricity generation from 24% to 30% by the year 2022.
  • Denmark is predicted to be the leader with 70% of its power coming from solar and wind.
  • Ireland, the United States and Germany will contribute 1/4 of power from wind and solar.
