Via Clean Technica: Last month, tesla launched its Powerwall 2.0 residential battery storage system, which is less than a year after the company launched Powerwall 1.0.
The Powerwall 2 peak power has gone up by 40%, continuous power by 50%, the storage capacity by 100% and it included an inverter. And all of this for $8,000, which is about the same price as the Powerwall 1.0.
Thus, in other words, the price per kilowatt-hour stored and re-used has halved in less than a year. Indicative installed prices in Australia are a little over $10,000. The common notion was that battery costs would go down more gradually than the precipitate decline seen in solar PV costs… And this has been proven wrong.
As the article details, putting this together and amortising the capital items at 2% mortgage rate, the PV+battery+grid is leveled with the average grid-only market offer and more affordable than the average grid-only market offer.
