The United States is no longer the most attractive renewable energy market for many investors, according to the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index. India and China have surpassed the US at the top of the index semi-annual ranking of the 40 leading countries on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities, based on a number of macros, energy market and technology-specific indicators.
The report also stated that the United States fall in the rankings follows a marked shift in policy under the new Trump administration. It identifies the Trump’s executive orders to roll back many of the past administration’s climate change policies, revive the US coal industry and review the Clean Power Plan as the key downward pressures on renewable investment attractiveness in the country.
The latest index moves China to first and India to second place while the US fell back to third place.
