President Donald Trump has approved tariffs starting at 30% on solar equipment made outside the United States as reported by Bloomberg.
The majority of the solar industry depends on parts made abroad for 80% of its supply – so this is a big hit on renewables. This announcement comes after Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The threat of these tariffs has left the industry unstable. The Solar Energy Industries Association has predicted 23,000 job losses this year.
