Western Australia Adopts Solar Panels at Record Pace

Western Australian households and businesses are installing solar panels at a record pace, with installations showing up to 33% last year, driven by the rising power costs and the falling costs of renewable technology as reported by ABC News.

The data was produced by solar industry consultant SunWiz. They also revealed the country’s top 20 solar-adopting suburbs were located in Western Australia with Wanneroo, Armadale, and Mandurah leading the way.

Warwick Johnson, SunWiz managing director, said there were two factors driving the uptake in WA. Prices in Perth are at their lowest as compared to the eastern states and they are also seeing the electricity prices rise. The huge adoption of solar panels during 2016 provided a boom in service for solar installers across the state.

The research came as more than 40 interest groups joined in WA to call for action on climate change. The research was headed by doctors, farmers and church groups. The coalition wants the government to have a commitment to the ambitious RET of 100% by 2030.
