Whyalla Steelworks Powered by $700M Renewables

The OneSteel steelworks in Whyalla will receive a $700 million renewable energy project to power the company. Zen Energy Chairman Sanjeev Gupta announced the project last week as reported by The Guardian.

This will be the biggest solar and power storage investment in Australia and will produce one gigawatt of renewable energy to many major industries including OneSteel.

The project includes:

  • 200 megawatts of solar PVs
  • 100 megawatts/100 megawatt-hour of battery storage located in Port Augusta
  • 120 megawatts/60 megawatt-hour of hydro storage in the Middleback Ranges
  • 100 megawatts demand response in the Arrium steelworks
